Week Ahead: Middletown Council, Edgmont Planning Meetings

What's going on this week in the greater Media area? Here's what we found but be sure to add anything we may have missed in the comments below.

  • Middletown Township Council meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 26. Two public hearings will be held: a proposed amendment to a zoning ordinance to permit a campus mixed use development and a conditional use application for Ponds Edge. Find the full agenda here. 
  • Backyard Buffers & Rain Barrel Making at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 at the Community Recreation and Education Center (CREC), 9000 Parkview Drive, Haverford. During the free presentation, attendees will learn about the problems associated with stormwater runoff, ways to conserve water in their homes, and watershed friendly landscaping techniques. Rain barrels will also be raffled off. 
  • Edgmont Township Planning Commission meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 26
  • Girls Night Out at Middletown Library at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 27. Jana from Jana's Hair Studio will trim bangs and paint fingernails for girls ages 10 and up for free. Have some girl talk and discuss your summer and get a free beauty product to take home. Registration required.
  • Week 2 of Children's Tennis Camp: Held from 9 to 10 a.m., for 7-11 years olds and from 10 to 11 a.m. for 12-16 year olds. The cost is $10 a week for borough residents and $20 a week for out of borough residents. Tennis balls are provided but please bring your rackets. Call the recreation office to register at 610-566-5210 x255.
  • Upper Providence Township Planning Commission meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 27. Find the full agenda here. 
  • Upper Providence Township Zoning Hearing Board at 7 p.m. on Aug. 28
  • Boat Challenge at Middletown Library at 4 p.m. on Aug. 28. Teams will be given a set of supplies and 30 minutes to make a boat. The team with the best boat (that also stays afloat) will win a prize. For ages 5 and up. Registration required. 
  • Middletown Township Zoning Hearing Board at 7 p.m. on Aug. 28
  • Quizzo at 8 p.m. on Aug. 28 at Quotations 
  • "For the Record" from 9 to 11 p.m. on Aug. 30 at Picasso, the area's best songwriters come together for a night of great songs and stories. Hosted by The Gracious and multi-tracked by Resonant Recording.
  • Area 1 Recycling Collection days in Middletown Township on Aug. 28, 29 and 30
  • Penncrest High School 9th Grade Orientation/Tech Information Night at 7 p.m. on Aug. 27
  • Penncrest High School Tech Information Night for grades 10, 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. on Aug. 28
  • Glenwood Elementary School Open House from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 29
  • Indian Lane Elementary School Kindergarten Orientation from 11 a.m. to noon and Open House from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 
  • Media Elementary School AM Kindergarten Orientation from 11 a.m. to noon and Open House and PM Kindergarten Orientation from 2 to 3 p.m. on Aug. 29 
  • Rose Tree Elementary School New Family Orientation from 1 to 2 p.m. and Open House from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 
  • Teen Open Mic Night from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 28 at Aurora Cafe in Granite Run Mall. Any teen poets, storytellers, singers, song writers, or musicians interested in performing should sign up at the Middletown Library's front desk, call 610-566-7828, or email micsd@delcolibraries.org or sign up that night.
  • Edgmont Township Volunteer Fire Training at 7 p.m. on Aug. 29 at 1010 Gradyville Road
  • Dining Under the Stars on Wednesday
  • Media Farmers Market on Thursday 
  • Springfield Road in Springfield Township will be closed between Route 1 (State Road) and Old Marple Road on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the end of August.
