Fine Arts Fest, March of Dimes, Film Festival Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Media Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of fall and artistic events. Find unique art pieces at the Fine Arts and Craft Festival, enjoy the short films at a film festival or locate hidden treasures at a flea market. Or take a walk for the March of Dimes or check out O'Hara's open house.

Community Arts Center Fine Arts and Crafts Festival

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rain or Shine
  • Where: State Street in Media
  • Why Go: This 11th annual festival gives you the opportunity to buy high quality original art directly from the tri-state area’s best artists and artisans. Purchase some unique pieces, listen to the live music and enjoy the children's activities and art demonstrations, raffles and more.

March of Dimes Walk

  • When: Sunday, Sept. 29 Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m.
  • Where: Media Elementary School
  • Why Go: Support babies at the March of Dimes. The walk/run begins at Media Elementary School and follows the normal parade route, down State Street to Front Street in front of the Delaware County Courthouse. There will also be music, kid's games, a moon bounce and refreshments.
Hillside Farm Harvest Festival
  • When: Saturday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain Date: Sept. 29
  • Where: Hillside Farm, 115 S. New Middletown Road
  • Why Go: Support your local agriculture while having fun with hayrides, sack races and homestead demonstrations. Enter the pie back off and enjoy locally sourced foods too. Buying local, always tastes better.
Newtown Square Fire Co. Flea Market
  • When: Sunday, Sept. 29, at 9 a.m. 
  • Where: 3590 West Chester Pike in Newtown Square
  • Why Go: Enjoy the hunt for hidden treasures at this 66th semi-annual market that benefits the Newtown Square Volunteer Fire Co. through the efforts of the Auxiliary. Plenty of food and discount cards for the movies and local attractions, too. 
Manhattan Short Film Festival
  • When: Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Where: Media Theatre, 104 East State Street, Media,
  • Why Go: Ten films will be shown and both nights of the festival. The films will be screened across six continents and audiences at each film site are given a voting card upon entry and asked to vote for the film they believe should win. The winner will be announced on Oct. 6. Find the full list of films here
  • Cost: $10, general seating, two hour run time

Delaware County Bird Society Visit

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m.
  • Where: Newtown Township Library, 
  • Why Go: Visit with live, exotic birds like cockatoos and parrots. Some of the birds even speak, do tricks and will perch on your arm. Don't forget to bring your camera. For all ages. NO registration required. 
Guest Artist Barbara Litt Reception

  • When: Sunday, Sept. 29 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Where: Marple Public Library, 2599 Sproul Road in Broomall 
  • Why Go: Litt is exhibiting her oil paintings at The Marple Library Public Library in October and her works also include permanent installations at Temple Sholom in Broomall. Litt's paintings often include the human form engaged in their environment, with a focus on instrumental or dance performance. She also loves to paint memories from her travels. 
Cardinal O'Hara High School Open House

  • When: Sunday, Sept. 29 at noon
  • Where: 1701 S. Sproul Road in Springfield
  • Why Go: Visit the high school and see all that O'Hara has to offer. Mass will be offered at noon followed by school tours and presentations. All are welcome.
