Food Fest, Flapjack Fundraiser, Electronic Waste Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Media Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events and food. Check out Media's largest event, the Food Festival or bring your pup to Broomall's Doggy Show to show off your best pet costume. Or pig out at a pig roast or a flapjack fundraiser.

Media's Food Festival

  • When: Sunday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rain Date: Oct. 13
  • Where: State Street in Media
  • Why Go: You won't leave hungry from this 33th annual Food and Craft Festival. Enjoy food from the more than 40 restaurants, check out the 75 craft vendors and listen to live music. State Street will be closed from Monroe Street to the end of trolley line before Lemon Street. No dogs are permitted at this event.

Middletown Township Electronic Waste Collection

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 
  • Where: Middletown Township Building, 27 N. Pennell Road in Lima
  • Why Go: Bring your electronic waste like computer towers, laptops, keyboards, copiers, stereos, cameras, microwave ovens, cell phones, answering machines, DVD players and more to this event hosted by the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC). There will be a small fee based on weight for TVs and computer monitors being recycled at this event. Find more details here
Broomall Doggy Show
  • When: Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m.
  • Where: Veterans Memorial Park, Lawrence Road in Broomall
  • Why Go: Bring your dog and win a ribbon and bragging rights in the "just for fun" contests, like Best Costume, Waggiest Tail, Best Kisser, Cutest Puppy, Best Behaved Lap Dog and Master and Dog Look Alike Contest. Cats and dogs from the Delaware County SPCA will also be available for adoption.
  • Cost: Free Admission. Contest fee-$4, Nail Clipping-$5
Flapjack Fundraiser
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8 to 10 a.m.
  • Where: Applebee's, Manoa Shopping Center, Havertown
  • Why Go: Marple Presbyterian Church will host an All-You-Can-Eat Flapjack Fundraiser. Join them for a breakfast of pancakes/syrup/butter, sausage, orange juice and coffee. 
  • Cost: $7 per person, $4 for kids, 12 and under
Martin's Run Intergenerational 5K to Defeat Dementia Kickoff
  • When: Friday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. rain or shine
  • Where: 11 Martins Run, Media
  • Why Go: Enjoy a short stroll around the community's campus (or inside, in the case of rain) and then enjoy hot cider, fruit and cookies. All are welcome.
  • Cost: Donations are welcome for the Defeat Dementia Fund, to help spread awareness about the disease and raise money for a much-needed dementia unit at the non-profit senior community.

Cardinal O'Hara Pig Roast

  • When: Saturday, October 5, at 4 p.m. Rain or shine
  • Where: O'Hara High School, 1701 S. Sproul Road, Springfield
  • Why Go: Bring the whole family and enjoy dinner and dessert at this pig roast. 
  • Cost: $7 per person. Tickets sold at the door.
Blessing of the Animals Service

  • When: Friday, Oct. 4 from 4 to 6 p.m.
  • Where: Covenant United Methodist Church, 212 West Springfield Rd., Springfield 
  • Why Go: Celebrate God's creatures with a special Blessing of the Animals Service in the church courtyard between the Epworth and Kingswood buildings. All are welcome.
Sensory Friendly Films
  • When: Saturday, Oct 5 at 10 a.m.
  • Where: AMC Marple 10, 400 South State Road in Springfield
  • Why Go: This unique opportunity for families affected by autism and other disabilities offers much more than a movie. Watch Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 in the movie theater with the lights up, the sound turned down and audience members are invited to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing. Guests are welcome to bring their own gluten-free or special snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Check here for more upcoming screenings
