Tree Lightings, Holiday Concerts, Caroling Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Media Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of holiday happenings this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Santa Claus will be busy again this weekend as he lights the trees and meets with the good boys and girls. You can also enjoy a caroling hayride or holiday concert. But if Christmas isn't your thing how about a John Lennon tribute concert.

Tree Lightings in Marple and Newtown townships

  • When and Where: In Marple, at 6 p.m. on Dec. 7 at Veteran's Memorial Park on Lawrence Road in Broomall and in Newtown, at 7 p.m. on Dec. 8 in St. Albans Circle in Newtown Square.
  • Why Go: Santa Claus will arrive, dancers will perform and the trees will be lit with thousands of lights. Ring in the unofficial start to the holiday season and bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate too. 
Carriage Ride Wednesdays
  • When: Dec. 4, 11 and 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. 
  • Where: Rides start in front of the Delaware County Courthouse
  • Why Go: Take a carriage ride through the streets of downtown Media and enjoy the streets lit up for the holiday season. 
  • Cost: Adults $10 and kids under 10 $5

Caroling Hayrides

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m.
  • Where: Linvilla Orchards, 137 West Knowlton Road  Media
  • Why Go: Linvilla Orchards continues the ancient Wassailing tradition with caroling hayrides. Join in the tradition as you snuggle together and take a ride through the orchards, sing carols and warm up by the campfire.
Holiday Gift and Craft Sale
  • When: Sunday, Dec. 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where: Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades, 106 S. New Middletown Road in Media, at the school’s Alumni Hall
  • Why Go: Shop for holiday gifts and crafts made by Ladies Auxiliary of the Williamson.
  • Open to the Public
John Lennon Tribute Show
  • When: Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Burlap and Bean, 
  • Why Go: Local singer/songwriter Charlie Phillips will play a tribute of John Lennon's music, recorded between 1962 to 1980.
  • Cost: $10
Collage Art Displays
  • When: Sunday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. Display will be showcased until Jan. 1
  • Where: Martins Run Art Gallery, 11 Martins Run, Media
  • Why Go: Works of collage made from an eclectic mix of materials will be showcased and the nine featured artists are all from the Delaware Valley Collage Collaborative.
  • Cost: Free and open to the public

Delaware Valley Show Chorus Holiday Concert

  • When: Sunday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m.
  • Where: First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, 356 Summit Rd in Springfield
  • Why Go: Enjoy the sounds of this holiday concert with a reception to follow. 
  • Cost: Free
