Zombie 5K, 2nd Saturday, Bandarama Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Media Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Check out 2nd Saturday in Media and the Media ICONS exhibit or go for a run...with zombies. Try some craft beer at BookTober Fest, check out some fabulous marching bands or take a defensive driving class.

2nd Saturday/Media ICONS Photography Exhibit

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Where: Downtown Media and Schlenker Building, 609 W. State Street (where State St meets Baltimore Pike)
  • Why Go: Check out the juried show of local photographers works. Awards will be presented during the reception. The theme this year is Delaware County Old and New.

Quick and Undead 5K

  • When: Sunday, Oct. 13 at 9:30 a.m. 
  • Where: Ridley Creek State Park, 1023 Sycamore Mills Rd, Media,
  • Why Go: Run a 5K race for survival as Zombies have invaded the course and will try to capture your flags.
Bandarama
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m.
  • Where: Harry Harvey Stadium at Marple Newtown High School, 120 Media Line Road, Newtown Square
  • Why Go: The Tiger Marching Band will perform, along with 12 other marching bands, at the 44th annual Bandarama. The Marching Tigers will perform their field show "The Machine," under the direction of Michael S. Massimo and Seniors Tom Lombard and Brittany Saunders sharing Drum Major responsibilities. 
  • Cost: $10 adults; $8 students and senior citizens. Tickets available at the door.
MNHS Arts and Crafts Fair
  • When: Sunday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where: AMC Marple 10, 400 South State Road in Springfield
  • Why Go: Pick up some crafts and great gifts for the holidays while supporting the Student Sunshine Scholarship Fund of Marple Newtown High School.
Loomis Elementary School Leopard 5K
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 12 at 8:30 a.m.
  • Where: Loomis Elementary School, 369 N Centarl Blvd., Broomall 
  • Why Go: Support the PTO at the first Leopard Run/Walk and food, face painting, a moonbounce and raffles.
  • Cost: Registration is $25 for the 5K and $10 for the Fun Run. Day of cost is $30

Recycling Event

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Where: Malin Road and West Chester Pike in Broomall
  • Why Go: This special e-waste recycling collection event is intended for items that are typically purchased during the year like toys, computers, laptops, televisions, cell phones and electronic devices. "Anything with a Plug" will be accepted and recycled, except large appliances and smoke detectors.
  • Cost: A $20 processing fee will apply to accept glass tube TVs and glass computer monitors, and a $50 processing fee will apply to accept projection TVs. All other items will be recycled for free.
