This is a great story. Thanks for publishing it, and thanks to Claire McGeehan for all of those…Read More years teaching our little ones! Sounds like you've earned a retirement.
And here's another teacher that wants less testing...so, when exactly did we find ourselves in the time and place where teachers lost control of their classroom? First it was from obnoxious students and gangs, and now it's from obnoxious test mafia that holds our children and teachers hostage on a weekly or daily basis. Perhaps it's time to stand up and question what is happening? Like here:

Congratulations, Claire. You are a beloved colleague and friend. Best wishes writing the next…Read More chapter!

Delaware County Library system has a great AUDIO BOOKS collection...how could that compliment or…Read More supplement the reading curriculum and interest at the elementary school level? An MP3 player and a set of earphones would be a nice reward for a good report card...right kids?

Thanks for another nice spotlight on a local teacher. It's great to recognize them and hear from…Read More them. Thanks to Tracey Fritch for all that you do! It's true that readers are leaders, and leaders are readers.
What a shock (sarcasm), another teacher that wants less data (i.e. testing) and more teaching. Can I join your club? Can my kids?!? Please, stop the insanity.
Great suggestion from Clayt above here too. Maybe audio books are already part of the curriculum? Shouldn't be a complete substitute but let's face it, some people are better auditory learners than visual.

Wow. If you gave me $20K per child, I could do wonders in my own family. My kids would be more…Read More than proficient in the required skills. I could still keep my job, hire some really astute grad students and get more than I'd ever dreamed of from this district. If they'd only let me out of the shackles of the $600/month property tax. Damn!

Scott, I encourage you to attend the RTM School Board Committee Meetings. You can hear for yourself…Read More how the current members of the school board (including 2 who are up for reelection, Nancy Mackrides and Linda Kinsler-Fox) justify the per pupil expenditures and spin the performance of RTM schools in light of the $20,000 figure. Private industry would come to a different cost/benefit assessment.
Susan May 7, 2013 at 03:42 pm
Once again, the school board, under the presidency and vice presidency of John Hanna and Linda…Read More Kinsler-Fox is endorsing a tax increase to the tune of 1.7% for the school year 2013-2014. Ms. Fox is up for reelection, so voters should just say "NO" to her reelection in November. The same goes for Nancy Mackrides, another school board member who has NEVER said "NO" to a tax increase. It's no time for the voters to say "No more Nancy!"

Unfortunately, the annual raises have outpaced the cost of living so it keeps adding up. Plus, the…Read More 70% of us who don't utilize the schools are tired if funding those who do. If funds were managed better, it may not be a big deal but when we read things like the District getting into the natural gas industry for minimal return on investment, it tends to raise the hair on our necks. We could do away with taxes and institute tuition payments for those that do use the schools, that may get people's attention better.

There will likely be a story on the proposed school budget some time next week. Anyone is welcome to…Read More post to our Local Voices section at any time but I do not foresee a story about public comment. Comments about the budget will likely be included in the budget story, however.

David Woods is truly an exceptional teacher who fosters critical, outside the box thinking! He…Read More ignites the imagination and curiosity of his students, particularly in the sciences. My daughter,Katie, is fortunate to be in his class. She is progressing well because she applies herself and David really believes in her ability to reach her full potential, as he does with every student entrusted to him. Thanks for what you do and good luck, David!
Take care!

Exactly John! It was a red flag in another district Cz applied in last summer and therefor they…Read More passed him over. So why wasn't a red flag for RTM. No matter how he spun it and answered when supposedly asked why the move....but anyone in educatin knows that you do not make principal changes on a Friday afternoon right before PSSA testing!!! If he wanted this new position he was moved to, the district would have waited till the end of the school year and placed him in his new role.

RTSD you have dogged bullets with Dr. Do-Nothing because he threw everyone under the bus, who…Read More questioned him & was protected. He hasn't done anything & would have never done anything unless you give him the suggestion. Move Forward and protect your CHILDREN as they are your FUTURE.

I have known Mr. Woods since his very early years of teaching. He was my Second and 5th grade…Read More teacher at Roosevelt Elementary. I had transferred in from Toby Farms and he was my first teacher in RTM. He is one of my most memorable teachers. I remember when he introdeuced greater than and less than with these alligator heads on the top of a yard stick. We all went to the Poconos together as a class too in 5th grade! After many years, I had the chance to work in the same school as him at Indian Lane. I still had a hard time referring to him as "Dave." My son had him for science in 5th grade and enjoyed how he taught science. Mr. Woods is a wonderful teacher. He was one of the teachers that inspired me to become one myself. Thanks for all of your inspiration and kindness!
