Three Penncrest swimmers were recently honored by the Rose Tree Media Board of School Directors.
The Penncrest boys and girls swim teams were recently honored at the Rose Tree Media Board of School Directors meeting. Penncrest Swimming State Qualifier Mary Kate Boylan placed 24th in the State Championship at Bucknell in the 50 Free with a time of 24.7 seconds, according to Director of Athletics Chip Olinger. Boylan, a junior, took a fourth place medal in the 50 Free at the District Championship with a Penncrest record time of 24.43 seconds, according to Olinger. Boylan earned a gold medal for both the 50 Free and 100 free at the Central League Championships. Penncrest Swimming State Qualifier Phil Nawn placed 24th in the IM and 17th in the 500 Free with a Penncrest record of 4:42.02 at the State Championship, according to Olinger. …

Joe Gartland earned a silver medal in the 170-pound weight class at the State Championship.
A Penncrest senior wrestler was recently honored at the Rose Tree Media Board of School Directors meeting. Joe Gartland earned a silver medal—the highest ever for a Penncrest wrestler—in the 170-pound weight class at the State Championship in Hershey, according to Director of Athletics Chip Olinger. Gartland, who was named the Delaware County Daily Times Wrestler of the Year, earned his 100th career win in the District Championship match and finished his high school wrestling career second in career wins with 105, according to Olinger. In the post season, Gartland won the Central League Tournament, District Tournament and finished second in the Regional Tournament losing 2-1, according to Olinger. It's an hour or so up Interstate 476 to the triple-A affiliate IronPigs' stadium, where a new gimmick is getting a lot of attention.
Urination-controlled video games are being installed this season at the home ballpark of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, triple-A minor league affiliate to the Phillies, the team announced Tuesday. Bethlehem Patch reported the men's restroom games from Captive Media are a first in North America. The attached YouTube clip shows response to the games in the United Kingdom. Sensors detect the stream in each urinal and manipulate the game shown on the screen above. "Players" will have their high scores recorded and displayed in the stadium, where the types of games will rotate throughout the season. Many categories of tickets are sold out, but there are still some available if you want to see these great golfers competing in your neighborhood.
When tickets for the 2013 U.S. Open, to be held at Merion Golf Club, went on sale in June, many categories quickly sold out. “Due to space constraints, only 25,000 spectator tickets will be sold, which is significantly fewer tickets than a typical U.S. Open,” the ticketing website reads. Tickets for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are completely sold out, according to the ticketing site, as are passes for the entire week. But, there are still tickets available for the June 10-16 event. Penncrest High School's boys indoor track 4x800 relay team was recently honored.
The Penncrest boys indoor track 4x800 relay team was recently honored at the Rose Tree Media Board of School Directors meeting. The team—Nick Angelina, Evan Emanuel, Soham Kamat and Colin Meyers—placed fifth at the State Championship with a time of 8:02.16, according to Director of Athletics Chip Olinger. Emanuel and Kamat were also on the 4x800 relay that won the Kevin Dare Invitational at Pennsylvania State University and Angelina, Emanuel and Kamat were on the 4x800 relay that finished second in the Burdette Classic, according to Olinger. Also, the 4x400 relay team—Dion Durnell, Evan Emanuel, Sohom Kamat and Colin Myers—finished 13th in the State Championship. The Penncrest girls indoor track 4x400 relay team was recently honored at the Rose Tree Media Board of School Directors meeting. The team finished third overall in Delaware County, according to Director of Athletics Chip Olinger. At the State Championships, Katie Arbogast, Brianna Artis, Allanna Blessington and Alicia Collier took a sixth place medal with a time of 4:01.42 in the 4x400 and an 11th place finish in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:45, a Penncrest record, according to Olinger. Coaches are Mike Clark and John Lohn.

Area sports bars are offering specials and prizes during March Madness.

Double Edge Sports Grille, in Edgmont Township, kicks off its March Madness fun from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 with a Half Off Happy Hour every night Monday through Friday during the tournament.
