Spasso, the new Italian restaurant on State Street, held a soft opening Monday night and is expected to open to the public later this week. Spasso Italian Grill opens at the once controversial address of 1 W. State Street. Media Borough Council approved the sale of the property in July 2011 and after much renovation the restaurant held a soft opening on Monday. Spasso is expected to open to the public this week. Diego's Cantina and Tequila Bar is also expected to open to the public this week.

Spasso's Restaurant, currently undergoing renovations at 1 W. State Street, is projected to open in March, the owner says.

A Philadelphia Italian favorite, which is opening a second location here in Media, is projected to open in March, the owner says. Owner Claudio Sandolo says renovations at Spasso Italian Grill's 1 W. State Street location are coming along slowly. Spasso was first said to open in January or February but the construction and renovations are taking some time and moving a little slower than expected but Sandolo says he is hoping to open his doors in March. "The place is coming along nicely," Sandolo says. The chef for Spasso Media will come from the Philadelphia location on Front Street in Philadelphia and he has worked with the Spasso recipes for more than 15 years, Sandolo says. Borough Council Approves Sale of 1 W. State St.

Media Borough Council approved the sale of the former restaurant to the highest bidder last week.

Media Borough Council approved the sale of 1 W. State Street to the highest bidder last week, according to Borough Manager Jeff Smith.  Claudio Sandolo, owner of Spasso Italian Grille in Philadelphia, won the bid with an offer of $670,000 over Heritage Design Collaborative that had an offer of $650,000. Sandolo plans to use the property as a restaurant. Heritage Design, the firm leading the architecture design for Blue Stone Developers, planned to use the building as a multipurpose facility that would house retail and office space and a restaurant. Media Borough Council announced the ratification of the 3rd Street Bridge/Dam and announced a decision deadline for the 1 W. State Street property at its meeting Thursday night. Borough Council unanimously approved the execution of a stipulation agreement regarding the 3rd Street Bridge/Dam. It was determined, after years of debate, that Media Borough does not own the dam, it owns the road above the dam. Delaware County and Broomall's Lakes Country Club are responsible for the dam. All three parties, the borough, the county and Broomall's Lakes came to this conclusion and agreed to the stipulation in order to make the needed repairs and maintenance to the bridge and dam.
