Media Borough Council unanimously approved the 2013 budget at its meeting Thursday with no mill change to residents. The $9.2 million total budget brings no tax change to residents. The rate will remain at three mills, which is $375 for the average home assessment of $125,000, Borough Manager Jeff Smith said. Breaking down the $9,206,845 million total budget, the general fund holds $7.62 million, capital fund $1.41 million, recreation fund $64,500 and liquid fuels fund $100,250. Middletown Township Council approved its $3.8 million budget and residents will not see a tax rate increase.
Middletown Township residents will not see a property tax rate increase in 2013. Council approved its 2013 operating budget, which is balanced at $3,880,720 and the property tax rate will remain at 1.6 mills. An average residential home assessed at $194,000 will pay $310 in overall property taxes, the same as last year. In 2012, that same average assessed home paid $1,029 in county property tax and $4,316 in school district property taxes, Council President Scott Galloway said. (See attached PDF file.) The 2011-2012 proposed final Rose Tree Media School District budget would bring a zero real estate tax increase to residents if approved and no programs were cut to achieve that goal. The proposed $80.6 million budget represents a 1.43 percent decrease from last year’s approved budget, according to Director of Management Service for the District Grace Eves. The district lost $1.1 million in state funding but it was also able to make reductions in professional services for substitute teachers, security guards, travel expenses and equipment requests in order to prevent a tax increase, according to Eves.
