County Employee Charged with Stealing Funds

The former chief deputy in the Delaware County Register of Wills & Clerk of Orphans' Court allegedly has been stealing funds since 2007.

The former chief deputy in the Delaware County Register of Wills & Clerk of Orphans' Court, who was being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Division’s Economic Crimes Unit, has been charged with stealing funds. Christine Trout, a 32-year county employee, was fired from her position in November 2012 when the investigation began but had not been arrested or charged. Trout has been charged with theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and related offenses in connection with stealing more than $160,000 from the office over five years, according to court documents. Trout, 52, of Glenolden, turned herself in to authorities Friday morning on the third degree, felony charges, according to Delaware County …

Delco DA Busts 6 Sex Offenders, Seeking More

After a crackdown operation the Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan warns missing sex offender law fugitives: "We will find you."

Man Who Met Radnor Girl Online Facing Multiple Felony Charges

Ashley Ryan Hareford, 20, will be charged with multiple felonies, including Involuntary Deviant Sexual Intercourse.

RADNOR TWP.—Ashley Ryan Hareford, 20, of Grottoes, Virginia, will be charged with multiple felonies including Involuntary Deviant Sexual Intercourse, Statutory Sexual Assault, Indecent Assault, Criminal Use of a Communication Facility, Aggravated Indecent Assault, Indecent Exposure and Corrupting the Morals of a Minor, District Attorney Jack Whelan announced Monday. Hareford has been extradited back to Pennsylvania and was in the custody of Radnor Township Police Department Monday. “This is every parent’s worst nightmare,” Whelan said. According to police, Hareford and a 13-year-old Garrett Hill girl met online. DA: County Employee Fired Amid Missing Money Investigation

The former Chief Deputy of Delaware County's Register of Wills & Clerk of Orphans' Court was terminated on Nov. 13 as the District Attorney's Office investigates allegations of missing money.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan confirmed Thursday that his office is investigating allegations of missing money in the Office of the Register of Wills. Whelan was unable to confirm the amount of money at issue. "We're currently scrutinizing the Register of Wills," said Whelan. "We're looking at the extent of any missing money and we are reviewing an allegation of missing money." One county employee has already been terminated in connection with the investigation, according to Whelan. Christine Trout, a 32-year county employee, was fired Tuesday.
