Man Uses Counterfeit Bill at CVS, Police Say

Media Police were dispatched to the CVS at 295 E. Baltimore Ave. at about 10:16 a.m. on May 3 for a report of a theft, according to Media Police Chief Martin Wusinich. A CVS manager told police that a man has been passing counterfeit bills at several CVS locations and the store was notified by its bank that one of the deposits contained a $50 bill that had been bleached and reprinted, according to Wusinich. This counterfeit transaction was found to have occurred at about 7:10 p.m. on May 1. The black man, wearing a black baseball cap and black vest, made a purchase for $3.14, paid with the counterfeit bill and then received the change, according to Wusinich. Truck Closes Olive Street Wednesday Morning

A tractor trailer closed parts of Olive Street after bringing down wires.

Olive and Jasper streets were closed from Front to State streets Wednesday morning after a tractor trailer brought down some wires. The accident occurred at about 8:40 a.m. and the road was reopened by about noon, Media Police Chief Marty Wusinich said. No one was injured.

2nd Arrest Made in Armed Gas Station Robbery

Media Police arrested and charged a woman in connection with the Easter Sunday robbery.

Media Police have made a second arrest in connection with an armed robbery on Easter Sunday. Jilly Tung, 22, of Media was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery and related charges in connection with a March 31 robbery at the Luk Oil Gas Station, at Baltimore Avenue and Providence Road in Media Borough, Media Police Chief Marty Wusinich said. Michael Szegila, 24, was arrested and charged with robbery, theft and related offenses April 12. Szegila waited in the store until other customers left, then approached the teller brandishing a knife, before fleeing the scene, according to Wusinich. Armed Gas Station Robber Caught, Police Say

Media Police arrested and charged a Middletown man in connection with the Easter Sunday robbery.

A Middletown Township man was arrested and charged in connection with an armed robbery on Easter Sunday, Media Police said. Michael Szegila, 24, was charged with robbery, theft and related offenses in connection with a robbery at the Luk Oil Gas Station, at Baltimore Avenue and Providence Road in Media Borough on March 31, Media Police Chief Marty Wusinich said. Szegila was arrested at about 5:10 p.m. on April 12 at his residence on Glen Riddle Road in Middletown Township, according to Wusinich. He was remanded to the George Hill Correctional facility where he remains until his initial hearing, according to Wusinich. Help Identify Sovereign Bank Robber

Arrests in several separate bank robberies were recently made, however, an October robbery case remains open, police say.

The Media Police Department continues to investigate an October bank robbery. Recently, an arrest in several separate bank robberies was made but a robbery that occurred at about 10:46 a.m. on Oct. 22 at the Sovereign Bank at 125 S. Providence Road in Media, remains open. The Sovereign Bank bank robber is described as a black man between 5-foot-10 and 6-feet with a heavy build and a slight goatee, according to Media Police Chief Marty Wusinich.  The man was last seen wearing a tan work-type jacket, dark pants, and a black baseball hat with a flat brim, according to Wusinich. Man Robs Gas Station at Knifepoint, Police Say

Police release surveillance photos and a sketch of a man suspected in an armed robbery.

The Media Police Department released surveillance photos and a sketch of a man suspected in an armed robbery recently. The Luk Oil Gas Station, at Baltimore Avenue and Providence Road in Media Borough, was robbed at knifepoint at about 7 p.m. on March 31, according to Media Police Chief Marty Wusinich. The robber waited in the store until other customers left, then approached the teller brandishing a knife in his left hand, according to Wusinich. The robber fled the store and got into a white Honda, which was parked at Starbucks, and possibly driven by a white or Asian woman, according to Wusinich. The Honda fled westbound on Baltimore Avenue toward Middletown Township, according to Wusinich. The Luk Oil robber is described as a skinny …

Car Flips, Traps Occupants, Police Say

Crews free two people after a single-car crash on Baltimore Pike.

Two people sustained only minor injuries after their vehicle flipped onto its roof in a one-car crash, according to Media Police Chief Marty Wusinich. On April 1, at about 4:15 p.m., a 2008 Honda, driven by an 84-year-old Wallingford woman, was traveling eastbound on Baltimore Avenue near Veterans Square, Wusinich said. The driver over-corrected her steering and clipped the rear bumper of a vehicle parked on Baltimore Avenue, Wusinich said. The Honda flipped onto its roof and trapped the driver and an 85-year-old passenger inside, Wusinich said. Both were conscious and extracted from the vehicle and transported to Crozer Hospital, Wusinich said. Both people sustained minor injuries, Wusinich said. Media Fire and EMS responded to the scene…

2013 Media Police Officer Of the Year Awarded

Media Police officer Eric Gavin was awarded with the 2013 Tom Flynn Memorial Award on Feb. 21.

Nearly a dozen men and women clad in blue attended the Media Borough Council meeting last Thursday. After a year hiatus, the Media Police Department proudly announced their 2013 pick for the 2013 Tom Flynn Memorial Award at the meeting. Officer Eric Gavin, of B Platoon in the Media Police Department, was voted by his peers on the force as this year's recipient. Gavin thanked his fellow officers for their votes and for the entire department for their support. Gavin said it was an honor to be awarded with the Tom Flynn award, noting Flynn's community involvement with the sports leagues in town and his commitment to serve the borough. Driver Hits Parked Car at 2nd, Lemon Sts.

No one was seriously injured in the minor car crash.

A vehicle hit a parked car at 2nd and Lemon streets in Media Borough at about 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday. The driver was transported to Riddle Memorial Hospital for evaluation but was not seriously injured, Media Police Chief Marty Wusinich said. No other people were involved in the crash. Neither vehicle sustained any major damage and the scene was cleared in about 10 minutes, Wusinich said. Media EMS responded to the scene along with Media Police.
