Media Elementary Transitions to Temporary Location at Former Catholic School

The former Nativity BVM School has transformed into a temporary Media Elementary School.

The school district announced in March that a 100-year-old roof truss at Media Elementary is in need of repairs. Media Elementary's Temporary Move to Nativity On Schedule

The transition from Media Elementary to the former Nativity BVM School building for the 2012-2013 school year is going smoothly.

As of July 1, 2012, Rose Tree Media School District's year-long use of Nativity for the relocation of Media Elementary goes into effect, said RTMSD Superintendent James M. Wigo, Sr. at Thursday night's school board meeting. Wigo said the move is on schedule, and the district is prepared to begin the physical move into Nativity. The school's temporary closing came after an engineering team determined structural issues in the roof needed to be repaired. The structural flaws did not jeopardize student safety; rather, the renovations will ensure the long-term viability of the school for decades to come.  "We are planning a smooth September move for Media Elementary students and parents," Wigo said. Of course, Nativity held its last day of …

Nativity Recommended as Temporary Media Elementary Location

The RTM superintendent officially recommended to the school board that Media Elementary School be temporarily housed at the Nativity BVM location next year.

Rose Tree Media School District Superintendent James Wigo formally recommended to the Board of School Directors Thursday that while Media Elementary School undergoes structural repairs next school year, the students and staff should be temporarily moved to Nativity BVM School, which is set to close in June. District Considers Nativity BVM For Media Elementary Move

Superintendent James Wigo recommended that the district "aggressively go after a lease."

After announcing last month that Media Elementary School will be closed for structural repairs in 2012-13, Rose Tree Media School District Superintendent James Wigo recommended to parents at a Monday night town hall meeting that the school district "aggressively go after a lease" for the use of Nativity BVM's facilities in the coming school year. Nativity BVM has not yet agreed to lease the facility, but at the request of the school district, did meet with RTMSD officials for a preliminary discussion of what a lease might mean for both parties, Wigo said. Out of a number of relocation options being considered, leasing Nativity's space would best meet the goals of the district, which include keeping all 425 Media Elementary students …
