RTM School Board Supports 2-Way Traffic at 3rd Street

The Rose Tree Media Board of School Directors supports the reopening of the 3rd Street Bridge as a two-way street.

The Rose Tree Media Board of School Directors stated its support for the reopening of the Third Street Bridge to two-way traffic at its meeting Thursday.  In September, Media Borough Council voted to communicate its design parameters to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation of a 28-foot wide, one-lane roadway, going one-way into the borough, with shoulders on both sides, a buffer and a landscape architect to be engaged at 3rd Street in Media. Then in late-September, Broomall's Lake Country Club filed a contempt of court petition against the Borough saying the one-lane, one-way decision violates the May 2011 three-way stipulation agreement between the borough, the county and BLCC. If RTM school district would like to reduce the quality of life for folks in Media Borough by adding bus trips on our side streets and cutting down trees in our park in order to save money on transportation costs, they can feel free to rebate that saved money to the taxpayers of Media Borough. If they plan on pocketing those savings, then they can feel free to end commentary on the bridge.   more ›

RTM School District May Face Tough Budget Cuts

State mandated pension contributions threaten future budgets.

Following the release of Governor Tom Corbett’s proposed budget on Feb. 7, educators around the region have been assessing the impacts that the $20 million in budget cuts will have on the districts. In the Rose Tree Media School District, and in others across the state, funding to special education remained untouched. On the up side, there were no cuts to the desperately needed state funding. But without an increase, educators worry about projected shortfalls. The state’s proposed budget and pension fund was also addressed at Thursday's Rose Tree Media School Board of Directors meeting. Indeed, there needs to be state funding reforms in financing public education. But, there also needs to be changes locally. With a new contract upcoming for administrators / teachers, it is incumbent on all parties to negotiate a more realistic contract.
