Snoopy Needs His Woodstock, Adopt Him Today

This spaniel mix, named Snoopy, is available for adoption at the Delco SPCA.

This spaniel mix, named Snoopy, can't wait to have a new best friend like Woodstock in his life again. He's a young adult but still has a little puppy in him and likes to play around. Snoopy knows his sit and stay commands but would be happy just getting pet all day. Snoopy is available at the Delco SPCA for $225. Because he's so young and cute and highly desirable, his adoption fee will offset an older animal's lower adoption fee. So really if you adopt Snoopy, you're saving another animal at the same time. UPDATE: Cats Squirt and Kitty Purry, recently featured on Patch, were both adopted. But Dog Georgette is still available. The SPCA exceeded its 2011 adoption goal and had 2,808 animals find forever homes last year. Thanks to all those …

Delco SPCA Stops Accepting Strays Jan. 1; County Implements Interim Plan

The Delaware County SPCA will begin it's transition to a lifesaving organization on Jan. 1 as Delaware County mobilizes it's interim plan while an animal control facility is built.

The Delaware County SPCA will transition to a lifesaving organization on Jan. 1 and begin to concentrate its resources on adoptions and preventative and educational programs in an effort to protect and improve the health and welfare of companion animals. The non-profit organization will no longer accept stray animals, however, they will continue to receive "owner surrenders" in the new year. Delaware County is building a new Municipal Animal Shelter in Darby Township and it is scheduled for completion in July. Until the new shelter is open, strays from participating municipalities, including Media, Middletown, Upper Providence and Edgmont, will be taken by local animal control officers to Chester County SPCA, at 1212 Phoenixville Pike in …

I second Paul's suggestion about getting your dog licensed! I sent in my dogs' applications the other day, so I don't have their license numbers yet - but 300 sure doesn't seem like everyone is on board yet. I found a dog over the summer and although I was able to locate his owner through the SPCA, it would have been much easier if he had a license tag. Just think about your dog slipping out of …   more ›

43 Municipalities Sign Animal Control Contract; Project Moves Forward

As of Dec. 23, 43 of the 49 Delaware County municipalities have signed a contract with the Animal Control Board. The target date for opening the new facility is July 1.

With 43 Delaware County municipalities on board, plans will now move forward for the proposed animal control facility in Darby Township, with a target opening date of July 1, 2012, according to Animal Protection Board Chairman Tom Judge. The 43 municipalities, including Media and Edgmont, have signed a three-year, $250-per animal contract. At a meeting with municipal leaders in late November, Judge said that without 39 to 41 contracts, plans for the animal control facility would not move forward. The original deadline for issuing a statement of intent to the county was Dec. 16, but only about 30 municipalities had signed by that time. The deadline was extended to Dec. 22. Judge said he understood that given municipal meeting schedules, it …
