Veterans from all wars were thanked and honored at Media's 53rd Annual Veterans Day Parade on Monday.
Media celebrated its 53rd Annual Veterans Day Parade with thanks and honor to all war veterans, young and old. Thousands of parade-goers honored Veterans Day with the 10 area school marching bands, numerous ROTC companies, antique cars and war vehicles, local and state officials and of course the veterans in Media on Monday. The New Greatest Generation was the theme heard throughout the day. U.S. Bob Casey Jr. spoke to the crowd saying Veterans Day was about gratitude, gratitude for those who have served our country and their families for the sacrifices they have made. The "new" greatest generation of veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars will be honored.
Media's 53nd Annual Veterans Day Parade, which is the largest Veterans Day parade in the state, will be held on Monday, Nov. 12, at 11:11 a.m. Media Mayor Bob McMahon said this year's honors will focus on the new, greatest generation of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. McMahon said U.S. General David Petraeus recently referred to this generation of veterans as the new, greatest generation in an educational program film and it was decided that would be the theme of this year's parade. The parade will kick off with the roar of motorcycles down State Street. Media's 52nd Annual Veterans Day Parade rose to another level of success on Friday with the Vice President of the United States speaking to a crowd of hundreds in front of the Delaware County Courthouse with his wife Dr. Jill Biden and granddaughter Finnegan along side him. The parade was filled with the hallmarks of any patriotic day: Veterans from long-ago wars and some from recent ones marched the streets that were littered with spectators waving Old Glory.
