Restaurant Review: Desert Rose

Patch contributor Lauren Avellino Turton reviews State Street’s Mediterranean "street food" restaurant and market.

Restaurant: Desert Rose Mediterranean Cuisine & Specialty Market Address: 305 West State St., Media, PA 19063 Rating: (out of 5 stars): ★★★★ Style: BYOB; Sit-down or take-out for lunch and dinner (outdoor seating coming this summer) Food: Traditional Mediterranean cuisine Atmosphere: Casual, clean, and bright Parking: Street parking Service: Friendly, fast, and casual Price Range: Affordable Unique Feature: Traditional Mediterranean “street food” is unique to the State Street restaurant scene. In my never-ending quest to find snacks that are satisfying, but also healthy, my go-to-choice the past several years has become hummus and pita. Generally, it’s low in fat and calories, and packed with protein. I’ve tried many varieties of hummus …

Restaurant Review Next Door: Heng’s Thai Cuisine

Check out this Springfield Patch restaurant review of Heng’s Thai Cuisine in Springfield.

The spiciest dish on the menu—Drunken Noodles, had this restaurant reviewer sweating. The Drunken Noodles had chewy egg noodles and tender chicken were a variety of crunchy vegetables: shredded and decoratively cut carrots, broccoli, snow peas, onions, green peppers and a big slice of tomato. The initial first few bites were a little bit of a shock because they were very spicy—I forgot to ask for a specific level of spice ranging from one to four, so I guess my plate contained a moderate amount of spice. Read the full restaurant review here on Springfield Patch and find out more about the chef and owner of Heng’s Thai, too.

Restaurant Review: Georgio's Pizza & Burgers

This week food writer Clara Park reviews Georgio's Pizza & Burgers in Middletown Township.

Restaurant: Georgio’s Pizza & Burgers Address: 20 S. Pennell Rd., Media, PA 19063 Rating: (out of 5 stars): ★★★ Style: Pizzeria Food: Pizza, burgers and fries Atmosphere: Neighborhood pizza shop Parking: Small lot Service: Friendly and accommodating Price Range: Many items are under $10 Unique Features: Daily specials and coupons When I hear Georgio, I think of the famous designer Giorgio Armani or George Clooney (that’s what they call him in Lake Como). Georgio’s Pizza & Burgers in Middletown, doesn’t really have much in common with those two superstars. The name of the business sums it up nicely—they serve pizza and burgers. The fare and décor are simple but pleasant. I met up with a friend for a weekday lunch and we noticed a decent …

Restaurant Review: House

This week food writer Clara Park reviews House in Media.

Restaurant: House Address: 110 S. Jackson St., Media, PA 19063 Rating: (out of 5 stars): ★★★1/2 Style: Sit-down sandwich shop  Food: Plenty of sandwiches, salads and soups Atmosphere: Brightly lit, cozy and colorful interior Parking: Metered street parking Service: Friendly and casual Price Range: Most items are under $10 Unique Feature: Kids’ menu, vegetarian options and seasonal offerings   As a TV junkie, whenever I hear "House" I think of the brilliant misanthropic physician with the knack for difficult diagnoses. For those lucky inhabitants of Media, PA, House should conjure up images of sandwiches and soups. While a fan of the lovely tea shop next door, I was a stranger to the offerings of House. The restaurant is brightly lit and …

Restaurant Review: Front Street Fountain

Stop in for an old-fashioned ice cream sundae, delicious burger or both at this Media eatery.
