ReplyMy daughter has the fortune of being one of Mr. Wood's current students, and she loves being in his class. His intellect and broad range of interests enrich the learning experience for his students in so many ways. He has raised awareness of life choices, consequences of one's future performance in school, and many other things the students will take with them as they go to middle school and beyond. In addition to covering the basic skills (reading, writing, math, etc) he has also encouraged students to broaden their intellectual horizons and explore other areas through his background in environmental education and wide range of interests. We are blessed to have him at Indian Lane.

ReplyThank goodness RTM is able to keep key programs in place (academics, music, art) ....for now. I am very worried about what happens when the district exhausts its reserve funds, which it is doing to maintain these programs.

Was this article written by an ostrich with its head in the sand? Where's the mention of looming pension obligations, the draining of the district's reserve funds, and the fact that few schools are likely to make AYP next year due to changing standards? RTM is a great school district, but it will take some tough choices to keep it so, which is why we need to open the board's decision-making process to the community by electing some new members.
