Rt. 252 Lane Restrictions Delayed; Will Begin Thursday

The traffic impact for the $5 million construction project to improve traffic flow on Route 252 (Providence Road) between Palmers Mill Road and Kirk Lane in Upper Providence Township has been delayed a few days.

Lane restrictions were scheduled to begin Monday on U.S. Route 1 (Media Bypass) and Route 252 (Providence Road) in Upper Providence Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced, but will now begin Thursday. 

Construction will start Thursday and Friday when a subcontractor will move a water main along Route 252 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on both days, PennDOT Safety Press Officer Brad Rudolph said.

The following traffic restrictions, weather permitting, will continue through the end of December 2013. There will be no road closures at this time.

• Route 1 (Media Bypass) will be reduced to a single lane in each direction at the Route 252 (Providence Road) interchange, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Route 252 (Providence Road) will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between Evergreen Avenue and Palmers Mill Road, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The full project is expected to be completed in December 2014.

The bulk of the project is expected to improve traffic flow through the interchange with U.S. Route 1, by widening Rt. 252 to five lanes through the Rose Tree Road intersection, upgrading ramps, widening the intersections at Palmers Mill Road, Rose Tree Road and Kirk Lane, making traffic signal upgrades and installing sidewalks and rehabilitating the Rt. 252 (Providence Road) bridge over Rt. 1, according to PennDOT.
