Linvilla Orchards has Four Seasons of Food and Fun

In 1914, the Linvill family bought a dairy farm on Knowlton Road in Media. They started out shipping fresh milk and cream to Philadelphia. The orchards came next, and they sold their fruits from the front porch of their homes. Word got around how fresh and delicious the Linvill's produce was, so soon came a bigger store, then a bakery, and a gift shop. The rest, as they say, is history.

Since that time,  has become a Delaware Valley tradition for families to make the trek to the 300-acre farm, to pick pumpkins, take a hayride, cut a Christmas tree, go fishing, meet the Easter Bunny, dive into the swim club, or try a tasty treat from the Farm Market. Linvilla Orchards has become a special place, "dedicated to agriculture, entertainment and education."

Rob Ferber, Linvilla’s senior manager, says there really is something for everyone of every age.

"A lot of our visitors come as kids on a school trip or with their parents. Then they come back years later with their kids. It becomes a family tradition where memories are made," says Ferber. "It’s a multi-generational thing. When parents see their little ones’ eyes light up, say when they see a giant pumpkin, that gives everyone happiness."

Ferber also mentions that it’s a great place to take a date on a hayride to see the orchards and spend a relaxing day. He says they’ve seen many marriage proposals there too.

"It can also be a less expensive day than other attractions, with free admission and free parking," says Ferber. "There’s something to do all year long."

All Year Round

The Farm Market is open all year, and features fruits and veggies grown on the premises. There’s freshly baked breads, pizzas, cakes, apple cider donuts, cookies and pastries. Plus, Linvilla’s famous pies in dozens of flavors. Add to that, gourmet foods, ice cream, and other goodies. The Garden Center is also open year round and there you can find seasonal plants, hanging baskets, trees, arrangements and holiday decorations.

Fall

October is by far Linvilla's busiest time of year. Pumpkinland is Linvilla’s signature event. At any given time, there are 100 tons of pumpkins on display, from teeny gourds to the giant pumpkins. Larger than life Halloween decorations greet visitors, and there’s nightly jack-o-lantern displays. Take a hayride through the apple orchards, or take an Autumn Moon hayride. Let the kids climb aboard the passenger train, find their way through the corn maze, and visit the farm animals.

During Thanksgiving time, you can have Linvilla cook up fresh turkeys, pies, party trays, and other foods for your big family dinner.

Winter

Christmas Around the Farm is sure to get you in the holiday spirit. It features the Christmasland decoration display, and the animals wear their winter coats. The Christmas Shop and Garden Center has wreaths, freshly cut trees, holly, decorations, gift baskets, and kids’ crafts. Santa’s on hand every weekend for photos, plus you can take a caroling hayride. And if you’d like, you can cut your own Christmas tree, selecting from Linvilla’s 30,000 trees.

After Christmas, the Garden Center will host the Fore! the Planet exhibit. Created by the Academy of Natural Sciences, the exhibit invites visitors to play mini-golf while learning about the environment at each hole. It will be available for birthday parties and run through March.

Spring

Linvilla springs into the warmer months with bunnies, flowers and fishing. Bunnyland includes special hayrides to the Easter Bunny’s house, Spring flowers, baskets, candy, plus a baby chick and other baby animal display. There’s also the annual Fishing Derby. Catch a big trout and win big prizes.

Summer

The Summer season is all about Pick Your Own fruits and veggies, like fresh and juicy strawberries, raspberries, peaches, apples, corn and tomatoes. Linvilla also has two Swim Clubs for the price of one, and Hidden Hollow Swim Clubs. There’s swimming and diving teams, lessons, tennis, volleyball, plus social events for all ages held throughout the summer.
