Woman Fined $30K For Refusing Writing Sample

The Middletown Township doctor who is accused of shooting her ex during a custody exchange has been repeatedly fined for not supplying a handwriting sample.

The Middletown Township woman, who is accused of shooting her ex while their children watched over Memorial Day weekend, has refused to supply a handwriting sample to prosecutors and has been fined $30,000, so far, according to the Delaware County Daily Times.

Lauren Patricia Daly, 41, was charged with criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, endangering the welfare of a child and possessing instruments of crime on May 28 and is currently incarcerated.

Daly, a pediatrician at A.I. du Pont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Del., fired shots at her former female companion, through the front windshield of a vehicle, during a custody exchange at the 200 block of N. Middletown Road in Middletown Township on May 27, according to State Police.

The former couple's 11-year-old son was also sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle and their 9-year-old daughter was standing outside of the vehicle, according to State Police.

The victim, a 49-year-old Wynnewood woman, sustained gunshot wounds to the face and torso but drove herself to Riddle Memorial Hospital following the shooting, according to State Police. Neither child was injured.

Daly has been asked to supply prosecutors with a handwriting sample at six separate court hearings before Judge Michael F.X. Coll, and she has refused each time, according to the Delaware County Daily Times.

Coll has found her in contempt of court at each hearing and she has been fined $5,000 each time, according to the Delco Times.

Daly is currently without counsel but had previously been represented by attorney Michael Malloy. She is due back in court Friday.
