Bark in the Park, Oktoberfest, Pumpkin Days Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Media Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Invite your dog to a party at the Delco SPCA's Annual Bark in the Park, play some Oktober golf or pick up some pumpkins.

Bark in the Park

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 19 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Where: Rose Tree Park, Route 252
  • Why Go: Bring your pup out to this annual event in support of the Delaware County SPCA. Don't forget those doggie costumes for the best dressed contest. WMMR's Steve Morrison will be the guest judge for Doggie Contests like Best Ears and Best Kisser. Find the full schedule of events here

Pumpkin Days Celebration

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m.
  • Where: Tyler Arboretum
  • Why Go: This fun-filled, fall, family day is full of fun activities, food, and of course, pumpkins. Pick pumpkins, assemble a scarecrow to take home, jump in the moon bounce, make crafts, play games and see Tyler’s glorious fall colors on a hay wagon tour. No registration required.
  • Cost: Member-$4 for adults, $2 for children ages 3 to 15; Non-member-$10 for adults, $7 for children ages 3 to 15; kids under 3 are free.

Oktoberfest

  • When: Friday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m.
  • Where: Edgmont Country Club, 5180 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square 
  • Why Go: Celebrate Oktoberfest on the links. Tee off at noon and then enjoy plenty of food and fun. 
  • Cost: $75 per player, $25 for non-players
Media-Upper Providence Library Book Sale
  • When: Oct. 19 through 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where: Media-Upper Providence Library, 310 N. Jackson St. in Media
  • Why Go: Books for all readers, fiction, non-fiction, children's books, CDs, DVDs, video tapes, games and more.
Colonial Harvest Day 
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where: Thomas Massey House, 475 Lawrence Road, Broomall
  • Why Go: Experience early American craft demonstration at the historic 1696 Thomas Massey House. Learn how to churn butter, make candles, and apple butter, blacksmithing and more.
Chanukah Craft Show Extravaganza
  • When: Sunday, Oct. 20 from 9:00 AM
  • Where: Congregation Beth Israel, 542 S. New Middletown Road, Media
  • Why Go: Enjoy live music while getting an early start to your holiday shopping. Find glass art, woodwork, jewelry, baby gifts,  up-cycled glass, pottery, baked goods and more.

Recycling Event

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to noon
  • Where: Nativity BVM School parking lot, Edgemont and Jefferson Streets in Media
  • Why Go: The Mother of Providence Regional School Student Technology Team the "iSquad" will host this electronics recycling. Bring "anything with a cord" to be recycled; computers, laptops, printers, cell phones, digital cameras, fax machines, video games, car batteries, air conditioners, lawn mowers, weed whackers, snow blowers and more. There will also be a hard drive crusher on site to destroy your hard drive and its personal information.
  • Cost: The cost to have your hard drive removed and shredded while you wait and watch is $5 per drive.
Care 2 Cure Run/Walk

  • When: Sunday, Oct. 20 at 8 a.m.
  • Where: Crozer-Keystone Cancer Center, 500 Evergreen Drive in Glen Mills
  • Why Go: Join this 5K Run, 1-Mile Walk to benefit the Crozer Cancer Project Team, a state of the art cancer care center for patients in our region.
Pumpkin Festival

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where: Culbertson Elementary School, 3530 Goshen Road, Newtown Square 
  • Why Go: The PTO presents the 51st Annual Pumpkin Festival with games, food, a dunk tank, giant Candy Crush, moonbounce, face painting, silent auction items and more.
